Before the town’s urban expansion, it was a structure located outside the urban perimeter. The chapel is situated in the district of Purchiarola, a junction of two major thoroughfares: the royal road connecting the Sicilian hinterland (Prizzi, Corleone, Ciminna, Caccamo, and Termini) and the road leading from the Sicilian capital to the village.
We know nothing regarding the date of its foundation; we can only state that the chapel was already present in the area in the early decades of the 18th century, as evidenced by a privilege granted by the Prince of Partanna and Duke of Ciminna, Don Geronimo Grifeo e Filangeri, in the year 1711.
To keep the devotion alive, a letter was sent in 1760 by the rectors of the image of Our Lady of Providence to the Most Illustrious Reverend Lord Don Serafino Filangeri, Archbishop of Palermo, requesting a grant of 40 days of indulgence for all devout persons who recited a Hail Mary or a Salve Regina before the sacred image.
